Meet The Sarasota Children’s Clinic Providers

Dr Carola Fleener

DR. CAROLA FLEENER was born and raised in South American and received her M.D. degree at the University of Carabobo in Venezuela.  As her family is originally from Sarasota, she and her husband and their three children moved back to this area in 1984.  Carola was in the Pediatric residency training program at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg before joining the Sarasota Children’s Clinic.  She is a member of the American Association of Physician Specialists, American Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association and the Sarasota County Medical Society.  She is board certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Physician Specialists. She was recognized as “Physician of the Year” in 2016 by the American Academy of Specialists in Family Medicine. She is a strong advocate for all causes that benefit children and is very involved with family and community activities here in Sarasota.  She loves being a Grandmother!  Carola says: “A Mother-Daughter practice brings the best combination of years of experience joined to the latest knowledge and skillset, providing a marvelous benefit to our patients!”  It’s great to share the joys of parenting and a special joy to have my own daughter on our team

Dr Barbara Fleener

Dr. BARBARA X. FLEENER is a graduate of Washington University’s Pediatric training program at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. She received her medical degree at Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico and is also a graduate of Florida State University where she obtained honors in music. Dr. Barbara was born in Venezuela and grew up in Sarasota where she attended Pineview School. Her professional affiliations include American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, Sarasota County Medical Society, and Florida Medical Association. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics. Dr. Barbara is very dedicated to the concept of general pediatric care and the doctor-patient continuity it provides. She loves children and is bringing the latest in Pediatric knowledge and practice to the Sarasota Children’s Clinic. She is excited to be a part of this team.

Lisa Ann Bernard ARNP

LISA ANN BERNARD, D.N.P., AAPRN, CPNP-PC, CLC.  Lisa began at our practice as an LPN before returning to school to complete the R.N. program at Manatee Community College.  She then went on to graduate with a Master’s Degree in Nursing Science and also earned a Doctorate in Nursing Practice at the University of South Florida in 2018.   She is currently nationally certified and involved in the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners,  is a member of the Florida Nurse Practitioner’s Network, Florida Association of Infant Mental Health (FAIM), Addiction Support and Pregnancy (ASAP), participates in the  Fetal Infant Mortality Review and is a Certified Lactation Counselor.  Dr. Lisa has staff privileges at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.  She precepts masters and doctoral level students at our practice; and is dedicated to teaching, mentoring and sharing her skills with them.  She is a very caring medical provider who is focused on children and she enjoys nurturing the parents.  In fulfilling her role as Nurse Practitioner she can provide top-notch medical care to our patients, providing them with extra attention and guidance to good health.  Lisa says she “enjoys a challenge and meeting the need of our little people brings long term fulfillment both personally and professionally.” She brings her years of combined medical experience to the practice and we are happy to have her on board.
